Wheatland Police Department Mission Statement
The Wheatland Police Department will strive to maintain a safe environment to live, work, and visit by furnishing the highest quality of law enforcement, support services, and public information available to us.

We will professionally interact with our community by being highly visible and ensuring each police contact is carried out fairly, impartially, and with respect.

We will achieve our mission through professional standards, continual education, and training of our officers.

Randy Chesser
Chief
Randy began his law enforcement career in 1991 as dispatcher for the Wyoming Highway Patrol. In 1996 he became a Wyoming State Trooper and was stationed out of the Wheatland area. Randy came to the Wheatland Police Department in April of 2000 and he became the School Resource Officer in January 2001. Randy was then appointed to Chief of Police in February of 2006.

Ruth Herdt
Secretary/Records Clerk
Ruth began her employment in law enforcement with the Guernsey Police Department as a part-time secretary in 1982. She transferred to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher in early 1983. Ruth then found her way to the Wheatland Police Department in May 1983. Ruth has seen five different Chiefs of Police during her career with the police department. Ruth wears many hats here at the Wheatland Police Department. She is not only the Secretary/Records clerk, she also is a Dispatcher, Janitor, Receptionist, File Clerk, and other duties as they may arise from the Chief.

Jason Niemi
Sergeant
Jason started his law enforcement career in 2002 with the Wheatland Police Departmentand has been since.  Jason is one of the Wheatland Police Department's certified firearms and less lethal muntions instructor, RADAR instructor and a certified Glock Armor.  Jason also has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.

Doug Wiggins
Sergeant
Doug began his career in 2003 with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office in the communications center as a dispatcher. In 2004 Doug transferred to the Wheatland Police Department and currently serves as the department's evidence technician and one of the certified Field Training Officers.  Doug is currently certified as a SFST and DRE Insturctor.  Doug also is the department's canine handler.  Doug graduated from the University of Wyoming with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture business.

Lisa Smith
Detective
Lisa began her career in law enforcement with the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 as a Detention Deputy and promoted to the road in 1999. Lisa transferred to the Torrington Police Department in 2001 and remained there until employed at the Wheatland Police Department in 2002. Lisa is one of the Wheatland Police Department's certified Field Training Officers.  Lisa was assigned to be the departments Detective in 2004.

Onyx
K-9
Onyx is the Wheatland Police Department’s certified police narcotics K-9. Onyx joined the department in 2005 and is currently certified in most major narcotics and a member of both the Idaho Narcotics Canine Association and California Narcotics Canine Association.
Brad Otte
Officer
Brad began his career with the Wheatland Police Department in August 2007. Brad was previously employed by the United States Forest Service as a Forest Protection Officer. Brad served in this position for 4 years prior to coming to Wheatland. Brad is the department's Quartermaster and D.A.R.E. officer.

William Houchin
Officer
William began his career with the Wheatland Police Deaprtment in May 2010.  Prior to this William served 6 years with the United States Air Force enduring two tours to Iraq. While serving in the Air Force he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and gained his discipline in vehicle operations.  William also earned an associates of science in criminal justice while serving his country.

Tiffany Whinery
Officer
Tiffany began her career with the Wheatland Police Department in January 2011.  Prior to this Tiffany worked for the Wyoming Department of Corrections at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Goshen County for over a year.  Prior to working at the Department of Corrections, Tiffany earned herself an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and an Associate of Science degree in Homeland Security.

Taylor Hanssen
Officer
Taylor joined the Wheatland Police Department in November of 2011.  Prior to coming to the department, Taylor was enlisted with the United States Marine Corps with an MOS of infantry, attaining the rank of Corporal.  Taylor completed 1 tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009.  Taylor completed his P.O.S.T. certification in Utah through Weber State University.  Currently Taylor has been working on completing his Bachelors Degree in education.
